Malabar Stew

Ingredients
Mutton ½ kg
Fresh Coconut milk 250 ml
Potatoes ¼ kg
Onions 3, sliced thinly
Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
Mixed vegetables like beans, turnip, cucumber, peas, potato, carrot, gourd etc 1 cup
Oil for cooking
Salt to taste
Water for cooking
For Seasoning
Curry leaves few
Green chillies 4-5 nos
Mustard seeds (rai) ½ tsp
Cloves (lavang) 2 nos
Cinnamon sticks (dalchini) 1” long
Cardamom (elaichi) 1 nos
Masala Ingredients
Cinnamon sticks (dalchini) 2” long stick
Cloves (lavang) 3 nos
Cardamom (elaichi) 2 nos
Poppy seeds (khuskhus) 1 tsp
Turmeric ¼ tsp
Rice 1 tbsp
Grind all the masala ingredients into a powder.
Method
Boil mutton with ½ coconut milk, sliced onions, ginger garlic paste and whole spices for 10-12 minutes. Add the ground masala to the stew. Now add the reaming coconut milk, vegetables and salt and cook till the mutton and vegetables are done. Transfer it into a serving dish.
Heat oil in a pan, add the seasonings, let it sputter add it to the stew. Serve hot with appam, idli, rice or roti.
